was the 50th Anniversary of the RSCDS Norwich Branch
and to commemorate it members devised some new dances:
(32 bar Hornpipe for three couples
in a four couple set)
Bars
1 - 8 1s
and 2s set and rotate. 1s finish facing partner's second corner.
9 - 16 1s and
second corners dance a half diagonal reel of four, 1s
pulling right shoulder back to finish facing partner's first corner. 1s
and first comers dance half diagonal reel of four to finish
1M at top of set between 3s facing down 1W between 2s facing up
17- 24 1s dance
diagonal rights and lefts up and down the dance to
finish 1M at top between 2s facing down; 1W between 3s facing up.
25 – 32 1s cross giving
right hands and cast, 1M round 3M, 1W round
2W into second place own sides.
All
three couples turn right hand to finish 2,1,3,4. Repeat from second place.
Devised by Roger Belshaw to describe the erratic progress of the floating gin
palaces on the Norfolk Broads at the height of the season.

SQUARE CUT DIAMOND
(Medley for four couples in a square
set. 64 bars Strathspey, 64 bars Reel)
Bars
1 - 8 All
dance interlocking reels of four, passing partner right shoulder to begin.
9 - 16
All face in, join nearer hands with partner and set, advance for
two steps, retire with corner person on the diagonal for two steps, face corner and set.
17 - 24 All dance interlocking reels of four passing corner right shoulder
to begin.
25 - 32 On the diagonal join nearer hand with corner and set, advance
for two steps,
join nearer hand with partner to re-form the square, retire for two steps,
face partner and set.

All turn partner right hand. All turn corner
left hand.
41 - 48 All
face in, join nearer hand with partner and set
and petronella in tandem. Repeat.

1W dances across the set at the top;

turn left hand three quarters to face first corner position;

position.

1s dance into centre, turn left hand three
2M and 3W dance out to first corner
position;
2W and 3M dance across the set at
top/bottom.
15 - 16
1s dance out to partner's first corner position;

1s and 3s set, change places right hand with opposite person; 3M
and 1W dance half figure
of eight around 4s dancing behind them to begin, similarly 1M and 3W dance
around 4s,
to finish in original places.

2s and 4s repeat bars 1 - 8.
17 - 24 All
set; all four women dance right hands across halfway,
pass the opposite man left shoulder to dance round him into his partner's
place.
25 - 32 All
set to corners; change places right hand with corner; all couples set and
link.
All are now with original partner, having progressed one place.

GOLDEN MOMENTS
(32 bar Reel for five couples)
Bars
1 - 4
1W and 2W and 3W and 4W half turn left hand, while men
turn right hand into double triangle positions. All set.
5 - 8
1s and 4s and 3s and 5s repeat. 4s and 5s move into side
lines on last bar, pulling right shoulder back.
9 - 16
2s and 3s (top and bottom couples) cross right hand and cast one
place (4s and 5s move up or down on 11 - 12). 2s and 3s dance right hands
across.
17 - 24 2s,
1s and 3s (middle three couples) dance six hands round and back.
25 - 32 All five couples advance and retire. 4s and 5s (top and
bottom couples) cast one place while 2s cross giving right hands to top
place and 3s cross down left hand to bottom place. All set.

(A 32 bar Strathspey for four couples in a four couple set)

1s cross giving left hands.
1W cross with 2W giving right hands.
1M cross with 2M giving left hands.
2s and 1s cross giving right hands
to partner. (1s finish in centre of set in second place opposite side, nearer
hands joined facing down.)
9 – 12 1W
and 3M turn right hand while 1M and 3W turn left hand once round. 1s turn
two hands half way round to face up in second place own side, nearer hands
joined.
13 – 16 1W and 2W
turn right hand while 1M and 2M turn left hand once round. 1s turn two hands
halfway round to face down in second place opposite side nearer hands joined.
17 – 24 1s, 3s and
4s dance reel of three on sides (1s dance in and down, 3s out and up, 4s
in and up to begin).
1s cross down on last 2 bars to
